Counterfeit Kit Challenge September Kit Reveal and Blog Hop

Why hello there.

Where has the time gone?

May I ask a favor?

Slow down the treadmill of life, please!

Wasn't it just July and I was preparing for my trip to Europe?  Time has marched on and little has been scrapped.  But there's no guilt here as sometimes (mostly summer) you have to stop and LIVE life.  The scrapping and the kit can wait.  Has this ever happened to you?  Don't beat yourself over it. Open up an Iris box and place your goodies in for a rainy, scrappy day.  That's what I'm going to do. I fully intend on using that Jet Setter kit from August.  Stay tuned.

In the meantime, we are on to our next batch of inspiration.  Let's take a look at this eclectic mix from Studio Calico:

Picture 1 of POP ART Scrapbook Kit

I will be honest.  I looked at this and thought, "I'm glad this didn't arrive in my mailbox!"  It seems rather random to me, but I decided to keep positive and figure out my angle.  I noticed those green and teal ferns and they reminded me of a fern paper I have in my stash.  And there...my kit was born,

Introducing...

My inspiration fern paper seemed to fit with the existing color palette.  A very unlikely mix for me, but that's the beauty of CKC.  We strive to stretch you (and the Master Forgers) in all different directions.  Take a closer look...

Be sure to check our "Forgeries on the Fourth" post on September 4th, of course!  I'll show you how I replicated the gold dot paper as seen in the lower right corner.

No printer's tray this month as it is still loaded with last month's goodies!  I have this month's offerings scattered here near my lush summer fern.

Not quite a fern, but that transparent leafy sprig will stand in well.  Lots of old product like some smash journaling cards and metal rimmed tag.

The light pink paper with the black dots reminded me of one of the inspiration papers and the addition of the paper daisies is a nod to the flower paper.

So there you have it...another kit created.  The important lesson to learn here is keep an open mind.  I'm still glad Studio Calico didn't send me this kit in the mail, but I am thankful for the inspiration to create a fun, fresh and lush kit that uses the supplies from my stash...the supplies I love!

Here's the order of the hop.  Be sure to visit all my fellow Master Forgers and Cindy, this month's talented guest designer.  Welcome, Cindy!

  4. Such a great kit from the inspiration piece this month. I so agree that I it didn't arrive in my mail box. Your fern paper is gorgeous and so is the "a little birdie told me" tag. Looking forward to your forgeries.

  5. Amen to the sentiments in your post about this kit! You have put together a wonderful mix of products that are definitely inspired by the Pop Art kit but to my mind are much more appealing, cohesive, and usable. I know getting the kids back to school will eat up the first part of September but I hope you get to scrapping with this very soon!

  6. Fantastic pulling a kit together from the colors :) I love the pop of yellow from the tickets and the fern paper is fantastic :) I so agree I would not have been very happy to have that arrive in my mailbox :) This is why it's so cool to counterfeit these things from things we have and love :) The flower die cuts are a great way to take on that daisy paper

  9. That fern paper is beautiful and I like the way you built your kit around that signature piece. I also like the Maya Road ampersands and the fun flair! And you're right - summer is for making memories. Once the cold weather moves in, there will be plenty of time to document those warm summer days.

  10. I agree with you; I'm glad I didn't buy this kit! BUT,I'm glad you started with your fern paper;-jealous that it's not in my collection...love all your inspiration embellishments; especially your flair and your metal trim accent.

  11. I too have become a collector of counterfeit kits. Have resigned myself to the realization that I enjoy building kits at least as much as scrapping, so it is all good. Great take on the inspiration. The daisies and leaf sprig reminded me that I do have a cricut that is feeling ignored. Looking forward to the Europe layouts.

  14. you've nailed it - I too wasn't keen on the original but I too love my version! Funny how that happens each month and funny how we all take it in such different directions! Your Fern Gully is really lovely and perfect for a few late summer projects. And if I only had one extra kit on the shelf, I'd be happy!!! I have a full year's worth. I'm hoping that LOAD1015 will help me along :-)
