Sketchy Business - A Card and a Layout

It's been so much fun creating for Sketches:  Creatively Yours this month.  I'm not normally a card maker, although I should be.  Card making is a great way to use up scraps and have handmade greeting cards at the ready.  Much cheaper than Hallmark!  I guess it's that I'm always pressed for time in the crafting department and my first love IS scrapbooking.  One of these days, I'll make the commitment to make a few cards each month.  It certainly sounds more appealing than walking on the treadmill, which is also on the list!

Anyway,  here is the sketch by Vikki Wittington.

Ali asked us to stick to an Easter theme and here is what I created:

Here's my bunny nestled in some grass...

And if I hurry and get this in the mail tomorrow, it can arrive just in time to my sister!

This is sort of old news, but here's a closer look at the layout I created for the last sketch challenge
at S:  CY.  I had wanted to do a corresponding blog post on my personal blog with the reveal, but time just ran away from me.  Returning to normal after a vacation, a funeral, my daughter's birthday party hosted at home, a spring musical, and daily life in general have kept me hopping this month.  So enough with the excuses...here's the inspiration piece and sketch:

 Proud Peacock is so on-trend.

And here's my interpretation:

The paisleys reminded me of the peacock feathers and I just loved when I had that "a-ha" moment to add the cobalt blue bling.  Now it REALLY looks like the real deal.

Thanks to my scrap bestie, Leslie for the awesome watercolor magazine clipping.  It added to my inspiration.

Downside of using watercolors?  The page does get a little wonky.  I sandwiched it between 2 heavy books and that did help.  However, I found when I put it in a page protector in an album it was hardly noticeable at all.  In the end, I think the effect is worth the wonk!

Thanks again to Ali for the chance to be spotlighted at Sketches:  Creatively Yours.  It's great to have another inspirational feather in my cap!

  1. Oh, this turned out so lovely! Your watercolor work looks wonderful - what a nice memory to capture, and the perfect sentiment for the moment. The bling really did finish off the peacock inspiration on those paisleys!
Your bunny card is adorbs, too :~)
